When you are looking to hire a photographer, do not be afraid to ask about their gear. Most photographers are shooting with DSLR cameras, but what else is in their bag. I shoot with a D300 and a D200, my wife shoots with a D7000. I have extra batteries, extra CF & SD cards, I can run up to 4 off camera flashes if necessary, and I can do stop motion photography with any of these camera bodies. Make sure they have low light lenses. Ask them if they have a f2.8 telephoto? Ask them if they have an 85mm f1.8 prime? If they say, "my camera came with two lenses, a wide and a telephoto." They are telling you that they have not invested in good glass. Depending what you need, they may be able to help you, but don't be afraid to ask questions. After all, it's your money.
